GET A PLAYSTATION-TO-USB ADAPTER

If you have a Xbox360 or PS3 controller, then you can skip this chapter!!

OK - so you need to connect your PlayStation®2 GH controller to your computer's USB port! There are various adapters out there that have been made to let you play Windows games with PSX controllers.... they are the same ones that let you play PC-based DDR type games using those dance mats. Well lucky for us, these adapters work with the GH controlla, too!

Here are some example adapters - they require installing a small driver and work superly in WinXP:

Super Dual Box
(about 14 US dollars)

Super Joy Box 5
(4 ports of joy)

Radio Shack
USB Adapter for
PlayStation®2 Controller
(discontinued. try ebay!)

Gamtec MB-2112
2 Port PSX-to-USB
(discontinued. try ebay!)

The Super Dual Box is the one we originally used - it has 2 ports which was convenient for us (one port for bass controller, the other for lead controller). The real selling point was that it matched my sunglasses. Ha!

Most of these adapters are available through online merchants, and I've heard that the Radio Shack model may be discontinued. Walmart sells the Gamemon Universal USB Converter which may work. Haven't heard that it's compatible with the Guitar Hero controllers, though.

***NOTE: Unfortunately I have been told that most of these PSX-to-USB adaptors come with drivers for Windows, but NOT for Linux or OSX. If anyone out there has contrary information, please do share! Right now I believe the only answer for Linux/OSX people is to use the Xbox360 x-plorer controller.

NEXT CHAPTER : TEST CONTROLLER INPUT
